Positive Proxy Representation (PPR) is a form of direct democracy. There are four basic components to the idea:

1.) Appoint rather than elect representatives.[]

In PPR, all votes are for laws or actions, rather than to select representatives. If you want a representative, you get to appoint one for yourself -- if they are in turn willing to accept the job of representing your vote. This is done by writing a proxy to them for your vote. Proxy voting has been used in corporate shareholder elections for centuries; the difference between this and PPR proxying is that in a corporate election one may only proxy one's shares to the Board, and the proxy-grant is for the entire duration of the shareholder meeting, which is the only time at which the voice of the shareholders can be heard. By contrast, in PPR one can proxy one's vote to whomever one pleases, and that person can in turn proxy it again to someone else -- but the original proxy-grantor can revoke their proxy at any time, without notice or need for reason or justification.

2.) Instant Recall[]

You can revoke your proxy at any time and without notice. If you don't like how someone is representing you, one push of the button and they don't, any more. This makes corruption more difficult; it's hard to sell votes if you can't be sure how many of them you'll have tomorrow.

3.)Voting proxies rather than seats[]

In a conventional representative government, once you have elected your representative, that representative votes in your name in the body to which they have been elected. In PPR, a proxy-holder votes the proxies with which they have been entrusted. So different 'representatives' might have vastly different numbers of votes under their control.

4.) Open-source legislation[]

In PPR, anyone can propose a law or action. This may require a 'floor' number of votes to be granted recognition and open publication, but the 'floor' number should be kept low, and be a long-term constant. Anyone controlling votes may then attach their sponsorship to the measure. Once the 'pass' threshhold has been reached, the measure is enacted.
